And Definitely Not Coffee

A brief conversation after breakfast Sunday morning as we prepared to go to church.

Me:  Zia, I need you to get dressed.

Zia:  Can you help me?

Me:  Sure.  What do you think about this dress?

Zia:  Yes, yes, yes.  I like that one.  Can I wear my brown shoes?

Me:  They don’t really match the dress.  What about your white ones?

Zia:  Well, they’re too big.  The brown ones are just right.  I think I’ll wear the brown ones.  Don’t you like the brown ones?  I like this  dress.  Please don’t brush my hair too hard. It hurts when you brush it too hard.  Can you tighten my shoes?  Are we going yet?  It’s raining, we’re gonna get wet.  We should get the umbrella.  It’s in the garage.  My dress is going to get wet.  My hair is going to get wet.  Where is Zoë?  We can’t leave Zander.   Come on Zander, let’s go.  I like this dress……

Note to self:  Zia is no longer allowed to have extra syrup with her French Toast.

share. peace.

I’m wired just from reading that.

Cute! I need to get me some of that syrup for this long Monday morning!!

  3. 3

You really ought to be recording soliloquies like that…

  4. 4

Isn’t it worse though in the car – whittering on and on – it’s relentless!

You just made me happy to have all boys.

My little one does that, without syrup. I shudder to think…

  7. 7

Ha! She is much like me on too much coffee….

Man, you had to be there.  I actually had to ask her to stop–so I could catch my breath.

I doesn’t work the same.  I know this to be true!

They clam up when the video camera goes on.  Maybe I’ll wire the house one night while they’re sleeping.

She was in the grocery store the other day making up these songs, totally oblivious to anything or anyone else in the store.  I went on for almost 30 minutes straight.

Zander is just as bad (or worse) about his shoes.

It very well could have been a combination of the syrup and powdered sugar.  It was just too much!

You don’t add sugar to your coffee, do you?  Because that could be bad.

Good stuff. I feel like that sometimes and I am not a big sugar or caffeine guy!

  16. 16

At least you will have someone who can brush your hair and put on your shoes when you are old and infirm.

  17. 17

Yes, I’d say no coffee for yeeeaaaarrrs!

I’m definitely a caffeine person–but I need massive quantities just to bring myself to a functioning level.

    I can only hope!

I try to curtail the sweets but to little avail.  They’re like addicts.  They’ll find a sugar fix whether I give it to them or not.

  21. 21

Heck Ya! Two or three teaspoons of sugar into the coffee…

Wow, that explains a lot, I never really thought of it….

I’ve had to start hiding the sugar bowl lately–they’ll just grab a spoon and chow down.  On straight sugar!

  23. 23

We’ve given up on trying to get the dress and shoes to match. They’ll figure it out someday.

I wouldn’t tell them about the butter and sugar sandwiches I used to eat after school then… they would love them!

My parents worked and I was a latchkey kid! My mom caught me eating one once. Needless to say, it didn’t go over well with her.

Had it not been church I probably would not have cared.

You know I’m going to go try that now.
