10 Minutes
It’s 9:00 am and I’m sitting here enjoying the sounds….of silence. Well, it’s not complete silence. My computer makes a constant high pitched humming noise and the keys do make a bit of noise as I type, but other than that—-silence. Well, the coffee pot is gurgling in the kitchen but that’s a good sound. So other than the humming computer, the sound of typing and a gurgling coffee pot—–silence.
Oh, wait. I just heard Rusty barking and what’s that? Footsteps above. Kids exchanging morning pleasantries and laughter.
Oh well. It was nice while it lasted. Maybe I can at least get that cup of coffee poured before they figure out that I’m downstairs.

With the mayhem in our lives lately, those quiet moments are harder to find, as they require dragging myself out of bed far earlier than my body is willing. When I make an effort to reset my body clock, I revel in those moments when I can tune in to all the background noises of birds outside and household appliances humming. It is a luxury to study the relative quiet.
Good luck! It would be tough without the Joe. You could keep getting up earlier….
The only time I get silence is during my short morning and afternoon commutes to and from work. I so look forward to them every weekday.
Quiet? I remember that!
9:00… that’s actually pretty good, considering how young your kids are. Lately I’ve been having to wake some of my kids when I come home for lunch – so my house is hella quiet in the morning. You should stop by for some coffee sometime!
I believe you added me on facebook some time ago, and I have been remiss in visiting your actual writing site.
I shall catch up with your life post haste!!!
Silence? Never heard (of) it.
Mark my words, Dad; you will one day long for those noises in the morning…
Coffee being poured IS the best sound EVER in the morning.
I wait with great anticipation the day I wake before Sun. Sounds so heavenly.
