It’s a Warning

Most mornings, school day mornings that is, are met with resistance and drudgery.  My children are early risers but only when I wish to sleep late.  If they have to be up early, forget it, all bets are off.  My calls of, “Good morning.  Time to get up,” are met with grunts and moans.  There is much whining.  Occasionally, tears.  It’s a chore.

This morning, however, I had a bit of assistance.  One word and the kids leapt from their beds screaming and practically bowled me over rushing to the windows.  “Snow!”

Shrieks of excitement at the season’s first snow and the signaled arrival of winter.  I only wish that I shared their enthusiasm.  I’m not quite ready.

First Snow First Snow
first snow First Snow

It’s only a light dusting and will probably be gone by this afternoon.  None-the-less, my kids view it as a wonderful sign that winter is upon us and Christmas is near.  I view it as a warning.

We’ve had several here, I am very not happy about it, thankfully they have all melted after a few hours. I definitely do not share the enthusiasm for what I consider the absolute worst of the four seasons, lol.

I view it as a really good excuse to go back to bed and pull the covers over my head. For four months.

    It’s not winter until December 21. I’m a literalist like that. I don’t think I ever liked snow…ever.

Oh, how pretty and wonderful and awesome and great and beautiful.

But then again, I don’t have to deal with it :)

I would like it to snow. At least once. But I guess one of these days I’m going to have to go up north and visit. Not that we don’t have several warnings down here. The fact that they decorate the mall for the holidays on Nov 1 puts a bit of panic (and annoyance) in me.

I can totally relate to the problem of synchronizing the morning “get up and go” routine with the wee ones.

We had flurries the other day and the kids were ready to don their snow boots and make a snowman. Until they realized they needed more than a dozen snowflakes to accomplish the task.

You see, we used to get snow, deep snow, every winter, but we don’t now in fact it hardly drops below freezing anymore – global warming isn’t all bad news you know.

On the bright side, all that extra time they gave you by waking early means that you can drive as slowly through the snow as you need! ;)

How come Gary gets global warming and I don’t :’(. I used to drive my car every day, that should count for something! Stupid public transportation here, depriving me of my global warming, sure I save money on gas but at what price???

A light dusting is all we get some years. Enjoy.

Karen–Yeah, it was gone by 10 am.

Gette–Not a very likely scenario around here. I wish, though.

Darren–I liked the first one, maybe the second. The more I have to shovel the less I like it.

Frigga–I was nice while it lasted. There will be more, I’m sure.

amy–The great thing about being able to visit snow is that you get to leave it. No so much the case here.

MGM–It’s hard to describe the look of disappointment on Zoe’s face when I told her it would be gone before she had a chance to play in it.

Gary–I’m with you on that one!

choosydad–I was kind of hoping for a 2 hour delay–didn’t happen.

Karen–Maybe you’re not driving a big enough car. Trade up!

James–It was gone before we had a chance to enjoy it. Now it’s just cold!

    Hey,

Came over after seeing your comment at Xbox’s site. My youngest daughter’s name is Zoe, so I’m with you in so many ways.

We lived for several years in Minnesota and ND, so, yeah, snow . . . I miss it here in NE Indiana. We did get some fairly massive flurries the other evening. Very festive . . .

    I’ll be around . . .
