My Kid Talks to God

He surprises me.

He’s a happy-go-lucky little boy that lives in the now.  And the now is usually happy.  Except when it’s not.

Just Wait Until Next Year, Boys!

“Hey, Dad.  So did you win last night?” Zane queries as he enters the car after school.  I am in one of those Fantasy Football Leagues and Zane is very interested in how my team fares from week to week.  He’ll sit with me on Thursdays as we look at the upcoming games and match-ups attempting to make roster adjustments and optimize my line up.

It’s a grand effort in futility.  I add players and drop players.   Sit or play guys depending on who their opponents are for the week.    I call myself analyzing when in reality it’s all a gamble.  I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned, but I’m a horrible gambler.  Horrible, I say. No Room For Gray

I’m not quite sure why I care, why it matters.  I’ve never met the guy.  I may have seen a picture once but that was years ago and the photo was old.  I certainly couldn’t pick him out of a line-up.  To me, he is nobody.  No one.  Of no more significance than the the piles of dog shit scattered in my yard.  Check that.  The dog shit is infinitely more significant because it’s here and there is always the looming possibility of an encounter.
