Had I Not Written Anything, This Would Have Been a Wordless Wednesday

The birds are singing this morning and for the life of me I can’t figure out why.  It’s chilly out, much more so than I’d care to experience.  I’ve grown weary of layers.  It’s dark and overcast and the smell of rain hangs heavy in the air.

Or on the ground.

The point is, it’s wet which gives the illusion that it’s colder than it actually is and I’m tired of being cold.  Somewhere behind the darkness the sun is doing it’s thing.  It’s difficult to be sure from this side of the clouds.

It is a Wednesday disguised as a Monday.

I got a new camera a few weeks back.  New in this instance a completely relative term for the camera is every bit of 60 years old.  Maybe 70.  There’s not a lot of information floating around about the thing.  (Quite possibly there is but I’m seriously too damn lazy to research it.)  It’s an old box camera — a Spiegel Elf 120 — and as near as I can tell it was produced sometime in the 40′s.  The picture above was the the first one snapped on it’s maiden voyage.

And now for something totally random….

This little girl makes me smile.

"I am Thug!"

And yes, those are Spidey high-tops.  They are awesome!

And the Ball Jumped Over the Moon

It was colder than it looked outside — the chill in the air actually doing little to stifle our enthusiasm for just being out there.

And so we played.

Until we decided it really was cold and we came back in.

Oh, and also because Zander stepped in dog poo.

Contrast

Red on White

There have been times where I’ve seen 15-20 of these guys (male and female) waiting turns to get at the bird feeder.  Thing about cardinals is that they tend to be a bit camera shy and it was way too cold out for me to keep standing motionless waiting on the herd to return.

(I know it’s a flock.)

Anyway, I just love the contrast of the brilliant red of these birds with the stark white of snow and barren trees of winter.

It’s day 41 of my go at project 365……

That’s all I really have to say about that.  I’ve yet to glean any great wisdoms or similar life altering knowledge from the experience.  You can see all of the pictures to date at the three six five page (the link is also at the top) or by heading straight over to my flickr 365 set.

(By the way–full disclosure time.  The above photo was cropped.  To my knowledge, there is no 365 rule about cropping of photos.  Or crappy photos for that matter–good thing.)

Silent Night

Alum Creek Fantasy of Lights

Took the kids to the drive through Christmas Light display at a nearby state park.  It was billed as The Fantasy of Lights and while there were plenty of oohs and ahhs from the kids, this little boathouse at the marina is the one that made me pause.  This was my lame attempt at trying to capture it.
